Project Title:

Motor coordination and internalizing problems: Investigating the Elaborated Environmental Stress Hypothesis.

This study aims to investigate a recently proposed theoretical framework for the relationship between motor coordination and emotional areas (e.g., depression and anxiety symptoms). This framework, termed the ‘Elaborated Environmental Stress Hypothesis’, proposes that this relationship can be explained by various environmental risk and protective factors such as physical activity, social support, and a child’s self-percived competences. The research aims to provide preliminary support for this theoretical model across different age groups (young children, school-aged children and adolescents), with important implications for future prevention and intervention programs.
